On a beautiful September day in 1958, Mary and Bob met in the faculty lounge on the 9th floor at De Paul University, in downtown Chicago. New teachers in the philosophy department, they were alone in the room at the time, filling out their employment forms. Eventually, Mary looked up and saw Bob, who was glancing at her, and she asked him a question about the form. When finished with their task, they walked out of the room together, and Mary asked Bob another question. "What do you think of metaphysics?" "Philosophy par excellence," Bob replied with a twinkle in his eye. You might say it was... love at first insight. ******** |
